Sound Familiar?

You're not the only parent living this.

These are the families who find their way to me — often after they've tried everything else.

01

My kid is totally out of control.

School keeps calling. Meltdowns and power struggles at home — whatever the age, whatever the severity.

02

I don't have time to deal with all of this.

You're overwhelmed and stretched too thin to take on one more thing.

03

My kid has no friends.

He sits in his room all day playing video games, and you don't know how to reach him.

04

We've tried everything.

Every approach so far has failed — and you're starting to wonder if anything will work.

05

Co-parenting chaos.

Different houses, different rules, no consistency — and your child is caught in the middle.

06

Emotions too loud to think.

Yours or theirs — the dysregulation makes it impossible to think clearly or respond calmly.

07

Stuck.

You want something to change. You just don't know how to start.

My Approach

How I Work

Most parent coaching starts and ends with the problem you called about. Mine doesn't.

Before I recommend anything, I need to understand your family as a whole system: how you communicate, how you solve problems together and apart, how emotions move through your house. Because the problem you're facing never exists in a vacuum. It's shaped by the rhythms, roles, and patterns underneath it, which is why two families with the same presenting problem can need completely different solutions.

So while we'll absolutely address what brought you here, the plan I build targets how your family actually functions. The result isn't just solving one problem. It's a family better equipped to solve whatever comes next.

Your First Session

Not just an intake. A full picture of how your family works.

Your first session is 60 minutes, over Zoom. (In-home visits, concierge-style, coming soon.) It's a real, in-depth look at both the specific problem you're facing and the family it's happening inside of. We'll talk through:

  • The problem itself, in detail, from every angle
  • How each family member communicates, and where those styles clash or connect
  • How your family solves problems day to day, not just in a crisis
  • How emotions get processed and handled, by you and by your kids
  • The bigger patterns underneath it all: routines, roles, and dynamics that shape everything else

Afterward, you'll receive an initial summary and roadmap: your family's dynamics, the problem we're solving, the goals we'll start with, and the first techniques we'll put into practice — a real understanding of your family's gestalt, not just a checklist of symptoms.

The Family Blueprint

Building the Family Blueprint.Together.

Once we've completed your first session, we start building your Family Blueprint together: a set of core techniques, adapted to fit your child and your family, drawn from 30 years of working with the toughest behaviors and the most disconnected households.

Below are some of the programs we'll customize together.

1

Camp Dorothy

Turn daily routines — meals, getting ready, bedtime, laundry, cleaning rooms — into family activities, with everyone given a role.

2

The "I Want" List

Every "I want" becomes currency your child earns through responsibilities. Not bribing — earning.

3

If-Thens

Clear, consistent routines — especially around screen time — so expectations never have to be renegotiated.

4

Proactive vs. Reactive

Set the environment up for success: clear expectations, social stories, and removing easy access to triggers.

5

The "No No" Prompt

A structured, three-step compliance method that picks the right battles and pairs them with consistent rewards and consequences.

6

Empathy-Sympathy-Redirect

For tantrums and disagreements: acknowledge the feeling, acknowledge the want, then redirect to what comes next.

7

"What Color Am I"

A simple, shared language for naming and managing big emotions — repeated until things settle.

8

Your Custom Plan

Every technique above gets combined and adapted specifically for your child and your family. No two plans look the same.

Built into every plan

  • Routines and schedules
  • Family activities
  • Fitness and healthy eating
  • Teaching moderation
  • Social stories
  • Poster-board routine displays
  • A real time out — with full removal of attention
  • Managing the extinction peak

Turning My Journey into My Passion

I know what it's like when nothing seems to work, for my clients and for me. That's why I started this practice.

When and Where It Started

I had difficulties learning as a kid, and nobody around me understood why. That struggle is where I first learned how to solve problems that seem unsolvable, and that skill is what my career has been built on.

My Challenges Turned into Gifts

I had challenges with learning that made learning the way school expected feel impossible. I didn't read fluently until I was 13. Despite these challenges, I was blessed with a mind wired for complex, big-picture thinking and a high emotional intelligence that let me connect with people and perform at a level no one expected.

That mix confused everyone, including me. I was insecure and misunderstood. Most of the help I got didn't work, so I taught myself, building my own systems when nothing standard fit. That's where I honed the ability to find out-of-the-box solutions nobody else had, and it's why I do this work today, for the kids and parents who need what I needed back then.

The Turnaround

That drive took me from remedial classes to graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa at Michigan State University. The deeper pull, though, was toward children struggling the way I had, and the parents standing beside them, feeling just as lost as my own parents once did.

Starting a Career of Service

I spent my early career as an ABA consultant working with some of the hardest-to-reach autistic children, kids who had been told they might never speak. I started getting better results than other therapists by making the method more interactive and less repetitive. That success gave me an idea for a program combining behavioral techniques with a relationship-based approach.

Around the same time, I worked closely with The Friendship Circle, serving as one of their first Sunday Circle activities directors: giving input on their building's design, training staff and volunteers in play therapy and behavior management, and leading trips for large groups of special needs kids and volunteers to places like Cedar Point, as well as leading social groups and camps.

I went on to earn my master's in Speech-Language Pathology from Wayne State University. Shortly after getting licensed as an SLP, I met Dr. Rick Solomon, a developmental pediatrician who had independently developed a similar model. His program, The PLAY Project, is now one of the most widely used relationship-based autism programs in the world.

I collaborated with him to add behavioral and language-focused techniques to it, and spent years as one of the program's primary trainers, training parents and professionals around the world. I've spent the decades since as a licensed SLP helping children say their first words, coaching parents and professionals, and solving the same kind of problems I'd been solving about myself since I was a kid.

That clinical experience, combined with a lifetime of out-of-the-box problem solving, made me an expert at teaching parents.

"No therapist spends more time with a child than their own parent. Trained the right way, you become your child's most expert learning partner."Dr. Rick Solomon, founder of The PLAY Project

What 30 Years Has Taught Me

The hardest part usually isn't the behavior itself. It's the exhaustion of feeling like nothing works, the loneliness of not connecting with your own child, and the grief of mourning the future you once imagined. It isn't a sign you're failing. It's a sign of how much you love your child.

Being of Service

I've become the person other professionals and parents call when nothing else works: an out-of-control child, a teenager who's vanished into isolation, a chaotic household, a co-parenting split with no consistency, emotions too loud to think through, or having tried everything already. I've likely sat across from your version of it.

How I Customize My Work

I don't believe in one-size-fits-all advice. I build a plan customized to each child and family, the same out-of-the-box thinking that got me through as a kid who couldn't read.

I've spent a lifetime solving problems that weren't supposed to have a solution. I'm ready to help you solve yours.
